I finally found a Singer 319K with the cool levers or "buttons" that also resemble typrwriter keys with different letters on them. I was happy to find one in such great shape. The tag said the motor didn't work. An easy fix.

I'm not sure why I got interested in sewing machines other than I had a prospect for a little sewing work. Well one thing led to another I started looking at machines and before I knew it I had a dozen. Then more. I was amazed at the quality and craftsmanship, the art and engineeering. The way it all came togeter and all of it still worked as intended a century or a millenuim later. These machines mark the absolute high and low in the worlds producers of precision machine goods. They chart the rise and fall of our world industrial capabilities. They are absolute pictures in time of what we used to be and what we used to use and make. Now we just buy everything from China at Wal Mart. The box down on the left holds a 1971 Craftsman 4" belt sander with the inspection label still on the cord. Made in China? Not in my collection.

This machine was stiff. REAL stiff, it would barely turn. It took me a few hours of oiling and wigling, and a half a can of WD-40 before the motor would turn it over. I almost thought I would be better using it for parts after about an hour with little success. But all it took was another hour of pushing, pulling, fighting, and hammering and yelling and now it's as good as new. I just laced it up and took it for a test drive. It is a great machine and sews a great stitch and is pretty quiet and smooth.

Seems someone was doing a little handy work around the house. They must have used teh sewing machine desk as a saw horse but unortunately missed judged the cut and went through BOTH layers of the top. Nice work Gomer!

Very similar to the 1938 White Rotary desk but with a 3/4" thick top and a cut out in the back. The leg on the left is 3" with a radius (rounded corners) all the way around.

probably the cheapest constructed Jones ever made. Not elaborate with decoration or design. the crank engages the wheel with a platic arm. Russian made it is not fancy and the box is made of thin plywood and particle board with a handle that looks as cheasy as anything I ever saw. I can not believe the box is not in several pieces as it is already crushed in on the particle board top. The seller carried it out by the handle I don't know how it didn't crumble. But it is a rotary Jones hand crank and it is Russian made.

You don't see many of these. This is the only Russian made item I own. It is absolutely a rare and prized item. It is not extravigant or fancy and you might even say it is chinsey or cheaply made. No decorations and plenty of plastic. It is obvious quality in manufacturing was on the slide when they started making this model of Jones. It shows very clearly the world wide decrease in manufacturing quality. The box is made of very thin plywood not even 1/4" thick, and particle board that is already crushed in on the top. The handle looks like it was made for a doll case or for Matchbox cars, not a 25 pound machine. It is a remarkable example of cheese.

Attachments oil can with rubber screw on spout extension. A couple of my buddies saw this unit and said they thought it was amazing and they would keep this in their living room and never sell it. I already have five machines in the living room.

1928 Kohler made in West Germany. With fancy inlaid base and porcelain handle. This is an absolute craem puff with minimal decal loss and no corrosion. I love the clover design on this one.

One of the finest sewing machines ever built. powerful, quiet, rock solid. This machine is one of the best designed I have ever seen. This is what the Supernova was designed after. The BU doesn't have the cams like a Supernova for the pre "programed" stitches, but it does everyhting else. You can't get a better machine than this. Even the oil ports on top of the arm have spring loaded ball bearings to keep out dust and contaminates. Now thats design and quality. With average care these machines will last well over 100 years. And there are aprts out there so life of these machines is indefinate.

The Necchi BU one of my newest and maybe my favorite machine. Controls are simple and positive no guesswork. Nice wide zig zag has a little trouble going through two layers of belt leather as the belt is not the right one, so it slips a little, but once it gets going it sews it perfectly with no tension adjustment. Then you can put some light muslin in with the same super heavy thread and a leather needle and sew that as well. This thing is a super machine. Once you sew something with one of these you will want to sew everything in the house. I saw once where soemone sewed cans together. I might have to try that. Maybe I can use wire of fishing line.

This is not for sale. It has forward and reverse. This is the first hand crank machine I have owned. A treasure to say the least. It sews a great stitch and turns so easily it is fun to use. It is so quiet and smooth and the control is, well right there in your hand. I think I see why people like these. They are absolutley amazing.
